This is an epic tale of cultivation in which dreams are the supreme law.
Since ancient times, the Three Thousand Great Daos have existed side by side. Karma governs cycles of change, space and time command the universe, and life and death rule over rise and decline. The Way of Dreams, however, has no form, shape, name, or description, yet it is the source of all laws: all cultivation begins with a thought, and all thoughts are born from nothingness. A dream is the bridge stretching between nothingness and existence.
The story begins in a mountain village called Qilimia, in Xiangning County, Shanxi. Yang Yun, the son of a miner, witnesses his younger sister Yang Qian drown in Blackwater Ditch when he is five. On the forty-ninth night after her burial, his sister appears in a dream, standing beneath the jujube tree at their old home and wearing that blue cotton shirt. She says, "I'm not in the water anymore. I'm here." When he wakes, Yang Yun carves the first question of his life into a bamboo slip:
"Where is she?"
Those three words are the starting point of his entire cultivation journey. From an orphan in a mountain village to the Dream Aspect Dao Ancestor who founds a sect, Yang Yun tests everything through personal experience, advancing step by step and refining fragments of dreams into a complete method of cultivation. The six true words of the Great Song of the Dream Aspect Dao, Still the Dream, Guard the Dream, Create the Dream, Trace the Dream, Dream Realm, and Dream Aspect, emerge with each stage and are recorded as understanding dawns. This is neither an ancient scripture nor a divine revelation, but a firsthand account written in blood and tears over the course of one man's life.
