Su Nian, a girl with heart disease, becomes desk mates with Gu Chi, an antisocial transfer student. Two unhappy people grow close. After promising to attend the same university, Su Nian’s condition worsens, and she undergoes surgery without telling Gu Chi. The surgery fails. On the day of the college entrance exam, Gu Chi loses his mind and fills his exam paper with her name. In the years that follow, he visits her grave every spring equinox, studies the literature she had wanted to pursue, and finishes writing their story for her.
