Pei Yan, the emperor of the Great Jing dynasty, is a cold-faced tyrant feared throughout the court and the land. In the seven years since his accession, he has devoted himself to ruling, shunned women, and left the six inner palaces empty. He ignores the court officials no matter how often they urge him to hold a selection of consorts or name an heir. Everyone believes the emperor has no interest in love and will spend his whole life with the empire as his companion, until he meets Shen Wanli, the sweet and gentle legitimate daughter of the Duke of Zhen at the Empress Dowager’s birthday banquet.
With just one glance, the emperor’s heart, frozen for a thousand years, melts completely. Defying the court’s objections, Pei Yan makes sixteen-year-old Shen Wanli a Noble Consort of Chen, an unprecedented honor, and lets her move into his imperial bedchamber. His exclusive devotion begins. The once decisive and ruthless tyrant transforms into a clingy, doting husband, cherishing the frail, gentle girl in the palm of his hand, indulging her every whim and making her the most treasured person in the entire palace.
His overwhelming favor sparks jealousy throughout the inner palace. The Consort Shu secretly harbors evil intentions and carefully plots to frame Shen Wanli. Misled by false appearances and consumed by rage, Pei Yan personally sends the girl he loves most to the cold, desolate palace, where she suffers terribly and falls gravely ill, slowly wasting away until she is on the verge of death.
When the truth comes to light, Pei Yan is overcome with unbearable regret. He ruthlessly purges every treacherous official, rushes like a madman to the cold palace, and kneels to beg forgiveness, beginning an all-out, utterly shameless campaign to make amends by spoiling her. The ordeal makes them both realize the depth of their feelings, and they fall deeply in love. Later, he dismisses the entire harem and abolishes the selection of consorts, making her his sole empress and promising that they will be the only two in each other’s lives, for all eternity. With all the tenderness he has for the rest of his life, he protects her and wishes her peace year after year, creating a legendary tale of a deeply devoted emperor and empress.
Just a personal opinion: I feel that be may be better. In fact, because the princess (Bai Yueguang) was injured in the middle, the heroine was convicted without any investigation. To put it bluntly, it is not loving enough and I don't believe it.
Very delicate. Super pretty.
