The apocalypse has arrived, and everyone is sent back to their homes, where they awaken special abilities.
Other people get fire, lightning, or doubled strength, making them superhuman the moment they step outside. My ability makes me stronger the longer I stay at home, but the moment I leave, it resets to zero.
While everyone else is fighting for their lives out there, I’m at home eating scallion pancakes, petting my cat, and waiting for my allowance. When others are so hungry they’re chewing tree bark, my second floor is already piled high with jerky and canned food.
But this isn’t some invincible power fantasy. The outside world is collapsing. Heat waves, acid rain, and extreme cold come one disaster after another. Food rots, human nature twists, and the starving start eating cockroaches, rats, even zombies. Their skin turns pale, their eyes bloodred. Half human, half corpse, they chew rotten flesh and mumble, “Delicious.”
There is no safe haven in this world. Just one house, one door, two people, one cat, and a hot meal.
Outside is hell. Inside is home. This is my shelter.
I think it's well written, but a bit short.
