Divorced With a Child, I Remarried a Tough Guy Who Kisses Me Breathless

[1990s setting + adorable child + burly veteran + breakfast stall + mutual devotion]

In the early 1990s, Lin Zhi could no longer endure her husband’s domestic violence or her wicked mother-in-law’s abuse. To protect her five-year-old daughter, Yaya, she brandished a piece of broken glass to drive the scumbag away, then left with her daughter and nothing else. The mother and daughter ended up on the streets. As they took shelter from the rain beneath the bus station’s eaves, Zhou Lie spotted them. He was a veteran who had transferred to civilian work, the station’s security chief, and the owner of a fleet of buses.

Rumor had it that Zhou Lie was a short-tempered tough guy who kept women at arm’s length. Seeing the fragile woman trembling as she shielded her daughter, he dropped his military coat and ushered them into the duty room. To survive, Lin Zhi set up a breakfast stall selling soy milk, fried dough sticks, and her signature pan-fried buns. Quick on her feet, she made buns crispy outside and tender inside, and soon the whole station was abuzz about them.

Zhou Lie went from being a “bully” who showed up every day to eat for free to a drudge who got up before dawn to grind soybeans and knead dough for her. When her scumbag ex-husband saw Lin Zhi thriving and tried to take their daughter away, Zhou Lie shielded Lin Zhi with one arm, like a beast guarding its food. “I’m raising my wife and daughter. You touch them and see what happens!”
