The Heart-Monkey's Path to Enlightenment: How Sun Wukong Was Forged

A stone meant to mend the heavens transforms into a monkey, and amid famine in the human world, he first learns the importance of the “heart.” He seeks no immortality; he only wants the people he cares about to suffer no more. While traditional cultivation makes “taking” its guiding principle, he chooses “creation”: creating spiritual energy, creating wisdom, creating peace for all generations. Through three trials of the heart and a century guarding a monument, he helps golden cores form and mends dantians, choosing “not to contend” amid the struggle for power. Because he knows that true immortality is not one person living for ten thousand years, but ten thousand people each living for one year. As the spiritual energy of heaven and earth nears exhaustion and a civilization-ending catastrophe approaches, he resolutely opens a new path, making cultivation a road all living beings can walk. He does not wreak havoc in Heaven; he ushers in a new civilization.
