Ten Years with Your Mother-in-Law, Ten Years with Your Daughter-in-Law

For the first ten years, her mother-in-law had her under her thumb at every turn, and she swallowed her grievances while working as an unpaid caregiver. In the next ten, her mother-in-law grew old and ill, and only then remembered her “good daughter-in-law.”

Wang Guilan had been domineering all her life, keeping her daughter-in-law Su Qing firmly under her thumb. She always thought her son was her own flesh and blood, while a daughter-in-law would always be an outsider. But when she was bedridden, her son was away working and rarely came home, while her married daughter had become more like a relative. The one who stayed by her bed, cleaning her up and tending to her every need, was Lin Wan, the very person she had always despised.

Su Qing looked into her cloudy eyes and said calmly, “Mom, I’m treating you the way you treated me back then. Isn’t that fair?”
