The Concubine's Forensic Physician: Reading Crimes in the Bones

Lin Wanzhao, a top modern forensic examiner, transmigrates into a book and becomes the lowliest illegitimate daughter in the household of the Vice Minister of Rites.

Her birth mother died young, her stepmother is cruel, there is barely enough food for three meals a day, and she has a four-year-old sister to raise.

From the start, she is forced to become the second wife of a fifty-year-old man.

With a fragment of dry bone, she solves the mystery of her legitimate elder sister’s “sudden death from illness” in the household.

Her hyoid bone was shattered, her neck broken. She died.

On the day the real culprit kneels and confesses, Shen Yi, an assistant minister at the Court of Judicial Review, offers her a bronze token:

“With eyes like yours, you can see what the dead cannot say. Would you come to the Court of Judicial Review and speak for the wronged spirits?”

From then on, Chang’an has a new female coroner.

A maid drowned in a well, a wealthy merchant in a sealed room, nameless bones on the border…

One corpse after another speaks through her hands.

With her precocious little sister in tow, she goes from the inner residence to the courtroom, and from Chang’an to the border.

Her sister A Yuan is always tugging at her sleeve, whispering, “Elder Sister, that person smells of blood.”

Only later does she learn that the girl can empathize with the lingering thoughts of the dead.

She solves cases, earns merit, enters the court, and takes command of the army.

She thinks all she wants is to protect those she cares about and win a fair and righteous world.

Until the emperor on the Dragon Throne smiles and asks her:

“Esteemed Lin, every woman in the realm takes pride in you. Would you like to see what the highest view looks like?”
