During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, Japanese pirates ravaged the southeast and the people were displaced.
Shan Changsheng was originally a farmer from Zhejiang, but a locust plague forced his family to move to Fuzhou dock to work as coolies. Unexpectedly, Japanese pirates raided and his parents were brutally killed by swords, leaving him and his younger sister to beg for a living. Not long after, a plague took the life of my sister.
Heartbroken by the long victory, he resolutely joined the army and vowed to avenge the bloody sea. He fought bravely and gained many promotions. Because of his outstanding military exploits, he was recommended to Beijing as an official. I thought all the hardships would be rewarded, but unexpectedly, I got involved in a turmoil and was wrongfully imprisoned.
Fortunately, he was rescued by an old friend and narrowly escaped death. After experiencing family destruction, bloodshed on the battlefield, and strife in official circles, Chang Sheng finally saw through the world and retired to the mountains and forests to live out his remaining days.
