In the early years of the Republic of China, the world was beset by supernatural upheaval. Zhang Ye, a transmigrator, became an abandoned baby and was rescued by Shi Jian, the senior brother of the Maoshan sect. Shi Jian sensed that the infant had an unusual destiny, but feared his own ill-fated, solitary fate might bring harm to the child as he grew. So he entrusted the baby to his junior brother, Lin Jiu, to raise, and named him Zhang Ye. Lin Jiu took the child in and treated him as his own. From then on, Zhang Ye grew up at the funeral home, calling Lin Jiu his master.
