[Infinite-flow Defense of Nanjing] [No System] [War of Resistance Against Japan] [Multiple main characters] [Ensemble cast, passionate action] [Somewhat grim] [Aiming for realism]
Shanghai and Nanjing in 1937.
They were nothing short of hell.
Countless patriots walked for two or three months to reach Shanghai.
Yet many of them lasted less than half a day on the battlefield.
On average, an entire division was wiped out every day.
And what of Nanjing?
It was even worse.
If we wanted a different ending,
what would it take?
This book has no plot armor. Even Gu Changsheng, nominally the protagonist, could die at any moment.
At first, he is more like a communications soldier passing information about the Japanese to various generals. He may seem like a mere tool, as the story focuses on his inner struggles and learning through trial and error.
I won’t change this setup. I won’t accept a soldier becoming a battle-hardened general capable of leading troops in a short time.
He is an ordinary man. Even with the abilities of an infinite-flow protagonist, he is still ordinary. He makes mistakes, and he can die.
Every legendary general has endured tremendous trials and struggles, bearing suffering beyond what ordinary people can withstand before rising to greatness.
My dad read my book and asked me why the little devil I wrote was so strong. Then he criticized me and asked me to write a perfect ending for each warrior. I really want to refute this point, because on the real battlefield, no one will be in awe of their life and death opponents. This does not exclude some Japanese with conscience, but more of them are devils who kill without blinking an eye, are brainwashed by militarism, and want to invade China. Like, the Japanese thought this opponent was very brave, so they buried him and even saluted him with attention. Do you think it's possible? How could he do these things if he had this kind of awareness? Then the second point is what my friends said after watching it. Why do they think the protagonist wants to run? Because no matter how brave or powerful this person is, he still has his own weaknesses. The weakness of the protagonist I wrote is his brothers. He had seen his brother die tragically at the hands of the Japanese last time, and he wanted to save his brother. It didn't matter to him, he just wanted to save his brother. Because he doesn't want to see such an ending again. That's why he ran. I think this should be a normal reaction of a kind and righteous person. In name, he is indeed a deserter and escaping. But in reality he was just trying to save his brothers. I wrote a lot of chapters later, but I haven't published them yet. I also showed them to my uncles and uncles who worked with me on the battlefield, but they didn't say anything. Some even said that what I wrote was too conservative. What he heard from his elders was even crueler. I may write more brutally later. Finally, please read rationally.
