A Thousand Dreams, One Return

Thirty-eight years old, with nothing to show for it.

Chen Mo has always been best at one thing: dreaming.

Ever since childhood, he's had the same kind of dream every night: he enters someone else's body and lives someone else's life. Sometimes he's a general, sometimes an emperor, and sometimes a stranger no one knows. When he wakes, his whole body feels weak, as if he's been drained. The doctors say there's nothing wrong with him, and he can't explain it himself.

P.S.

Then one day, a white-haired Daoist stopped him.

"Have you loved dreaming ever since you were a child? Have your dreams been getting more vivid in recent years?"

The Daoist left him a talisman and turned to go.

Chen Mo didn't think much of it. But one night, as if in a trance, he fell asleep clutching the talisman.

In the dream, he chose "emperor."

And then he really became an emperor. It wasn't just a glimpse of another life: he truly sat on the Dragon Throne, read memorials, and conquered the realm. Even the pain of a blade cutting into him felt real.

More absurdly, this wasn't a one-night dream. The story continued night after night.

From that day on, Chen Mo knew he wasn't an ordinary person. In his dreams, he could live another life.

But he didn't know why that Daoist knew his secret, or where the talisman had come from. And at the end of his dreams, the truth waiting for him was more absurd than anything he'd dreamed.
