From Poor Scholar to Chancellor

Lin Yan, a graduate in Chinese history and literature, opens his eyes to find himself reborn as a poor commoner in the Great Jing dynasty. His family has nothing: a thatched hut for a home, coarse grain to fill their stomachs, a timid father, an overworked mother, and a frail little sister. Even a full meal is a distant dream. With no System to give him an easy advantage, he has only a millennium of knowledge at his disposal. There are no overnight miracles, only steady progress through tireless study. He chops wood, works the fields, and handles the endless chores of farm life, then studies late into the night, poring over the sages. At dawn, he recites to the crowing of roosters; in the afternoon, he helps his mother mend clothes; at dusk, he herds chickens and ducks with his little sister. In his spare moments, he chats with the neighbors, grinding ink and working through practice questions whenever he can. The snobbish relatives who bullied him, the rich young men who mocked him, and the local gentry who looked down on him are all humiliated one by one as he triumphs in the imperial exams. The rigid but upright teacher, the kindhearted neighbors who lend a hand, and like-minded friends from among the scholars all accompany him as he steadily advances. From a village boy just beginning his education to the county exam’s top contender, from a poor scholar to a provincial graduate, and from a successful candidate in the capital to a high-ranking court official, he turns his brush into a blade and his talent into a ladder. Amid the everyday bustle of food and household chores, he clears one hurdle after another in the imperial exams, outshines the mediocre, keeps the great families in check, and cares for the common people. There are no mindless power trips, only steady, careful progress; no melodramatic twists, only the warm bustle of everyday life. Watch as Lin Yan, a poor scholar, turns his life around amid the everyday world, rising from a humble farmhand to the pinnacle of the imperial court. He will protect his family, bring peace to the people, and shape the fate of the realm!
