From a remote border county to the capital beneath the Emperor's feet, the thousand-mile journey rattles along by donkey cart. Behind him lies a murder case shrouded in layers of mystery; before him are the secrets of a bygone dynasty, so dark that even the Starwatch Bureau dares not speak of them.

Beside him, his adoptive father Bai Lian calmly drives the donkey cart, as if they were simply on their way to an ordinary morning market.
