The Crimson Vermilion has appeared in the world, and all three realms are its enemies.
Gu Ying, the youngest scribe of the Heavenly Secrets Pavilion, was ordered to find the Crimson Vermilion. At Peach Blossom Ferry, he rescued a red-robed youth covered in blood.
The youth was named Yin Shang. He was the only son of the foremost of the Demon Realm's Twelve Demon Lords, and his fate marked him as the Crimson Vermilion, wanted by all three realms.
Gu Ying's mission was to kill him.
But when he lowered his eyes to look at his Mountain-and-River Brush, a prophecy appeared on the page: This man must not die.
So he put away his murderous intent and said, "I'll protect you until your wounds heal."
Later, the Immortal Realm laid an ambush, the Demon Realm turned against them, and the Heaven-Burning Emperor set a thousand-year-old scheme in motion.
Gu Ying defied fate with his Mountain-and-River Brush, his black hair turning white inch by inch, all to keep that red robe safe.
Holding his increasingly cold hand, Yin Shang asked, "Why are you so good to me?"
Gu Ying replied, "Heaven's will says you must live."
But what he didn't say was this:
Three thousand years ago, when he wrote the prophecy "The Crimson Vermilion will appear" in his previous life, he was already waiting for this life, when they would meet again.
"May you live ten thousand years, and may every year bring you spring."
Those were the words he hadn't had time to say in his previous life.
In this life, he would bring spring back with his own hands.
