The story takes place in the fictional Dayin Dynasty - a world of immortals where Confucianism and Taoism are prosperous, luck is manifested, and imperial examinations and spiritual practice coexist. When the failed scholar Zhou Mingyuan pawned the ancestral Qing Chi jade pendant, he was sucked into it and obtained the "Haoran Zhengqi Jue" left by the ancient Confucian sage.
