I Never Loved Her

The saddest thing in the world is to give everything and still go unseen. The warmest reward is this: You raised me, and I’ll stay by your side until you’re old.

Jiang Xiuyun married her husband when he was down on his luck. She bore him children and cared for his parents, only to be repaid with his betrayal. She neither cried nor made a fuss, but held up the sky in silence, saw the old folks off, and raised their children.

Her daughter said, “Mom, if there’s another life, I won’t be your daughter. I’ll be your mother. I’ll love you the way you loved me and give you all the happiness you never got to enjoy. You’ve had such a hard life. Let me take care of you in the next one.”

Her younger brother-in-law, Zhang Fuqiang, felt for her and fell in love with her. He eventually married her, but their happiness didn’t last, and he could not stay by her side until the end.
