My Lord! You Know You Shouldn't, Yet You Do It Anyway!

Su Xiaoman’s ideal life is simple: save up enough silver, return to the countryside, farm a couple of good acres, and keep a hen that lays eggs. Then one bowl of plain noodles throws all her plans into disarray.

One night, Prince Pei Zhiheng follows the delicious aroma into her side courtyard. After finishing his noodles, he says two things: “Make me another bowl for breakfast tomorrow.” “What’s your name?” She answers honestly, thinking it must be a rule of the prince’s residence. Later, she’s transferred to the main courtyard, where a casserole pot, gloves, and scissors are delivered to her stove one after another. The steward says they’re part of the residence’s regular purchases, so she believes him.

It isn’t until someone impeaches Prince Su at court for letting a kitchen maid distract him from affairs of state that he speaks up in front of everyone: “If I say she’s capable, then she is.” Kneading dough by the stove, she thinks her plan to save money is probably doomed.

Sure enough, he eventually stops pretending. “There’ll be fresh chives every year.” “Make an extra serving of longevity noodles.” “What are we having tomorrow?” At last, she gets it!

One bowl of noodles for a prince: seems like a pretty good deal. Besides, he’s already reserved the menu for the next several decades, while she still thinks he’s just not picky.

Not picky? Only about certain people.
