Qinghe County: Taking Pan Jinlian and Wu Song as Disciples from the Start

Breaking free from the confines of the traditional Water Margin plot, this novel begins with Zhao Chen, an old farmer from Yanshan, transmigrating into the story, and completely rewrites the world of Water Margin’s lingering regrets. There are no melodramatic power struggles or mindless face-slapping scenes. The protagonist possesses maxed-out techniques, ten thousand taels of gold, and an immortal body, yet all he wants is to be a long-lived wanderer outside the plot. His calm, easygoing nature makes him stand out among Water Margin fan fiction.

Most moving of all is the protagonist’s redemption of Pan Jinlian and Wu Song. Rather than following the tragic paths of the original, he teaches each of them according to their needs, patiently guiding them: he helps the timid, insecure Jinlian become learned, reasonable, self-respecting, and independent, while helping the headstrong, impulsive Wu Song refine his character, practice martial arts, and uphold virtue. The five years of warmth in the little courtyard in Qinghe County offer a rare stretch of peace in the turbulent world of Water Margin. The System falls dormant
