Sun Shixian's Twenty Years on the Jianghu

Changchun in the 1990s: cold winds carried the scent of fireworks, while the streets and alleys of Nangguan concealed countless tales of the underworld. Mention Sun Shixian, and no one in those circles would fail to address him respectfully as Brother Xian. Young and reckless, burning with passion, he would risk life and limb for his brothers. During the 1983 crackdown, he stood alone against ruthless thugs to protect the men around him, trading his fearless courage for a long prison sentence. Behind the high walls of Tiebei Prison, time could not wear down his edge. It only taught him more about the rules of the underworld and the weight of brotherhood. After nine years lying low, he returned to Changchun in 1992. He opened a restaurant, hoping to live in peace, but favors, social obligations, and brothers in need kept drawing him back into the underworld's whirlpool. Generous and loyal, fair in his dealings, he never preyed on the weak or feared the powerful. In just a few years, he rose from a down-and-out ex-convict to the pinnacle of Changchun's underworld. The lights of Guilin Road shimmered in the night, while undercurrents churned along Baicao Road. Gangland feuds, tangled grudges, brotherhood, and flashing blades: this is the last great underworld legend of Northeast China. After Brother Xian, Changchun would never again see such a pure and righteous figure in its underworld. A lifetime of ups and downs, half a life spent fighting: no words can capture the turbulent life of Changchun's Little Xian.
