The Heart of Chunlian, a Village Woman

The mountains trapped women for most of their lives. Chunlian was once the most ordinary of the countless women left behind in the countryside.

She stayed in the old house with her young daughter, endured countless cold nights alone, and lived through the ups and downs of human nature and the helplessness of survival, carrying with her several unspeakable memories.

Unwilling to spend her whole life trapped in the village, she gritted her teeth and followed her husband to an unfamiliar city. She broke free of the stove and farmwork, found a respectable job, and slowly became her own person.

But when the festive New Year atmosphere returned, her hometown was still there. Old acquaintances reunited, and the secrets she had kept for half a year and the ties she could never sever all came rushing back.
