Pokemon: The Slacker Champion

(Lighthearted, slice-of-life, slow-paced, and heavily reimagined)

Abstract version:

I’m a Trainer!

Yes, you are.

The audience below erupts with joy.

I can catch Pokemon myself!

Oh my god! The people below are going wild!

Oh! You’re so brave, you can catch Pokemon yourself!

This is what I saw at the time:

They were a bunch of Trainers,

then a whole crowd of Trainers started shouting,

“Pokemon! Pokemon!”

Serious version:

Lin Che is an ordinary college graduate. After transmigrating to the Pokemon world, he finds himself without a System, but with the ability to copy the powers of Legendary Pokemon. His biggest worry now isn’t that he can’t get home. It’s how to make enough money to live independently, instead of mooching off Champion Cynthia.

Then he meets a Snivy in the park.

It watches the other Pokemon play with longing in its eyes. That awkward look reminds him exactly of how he used to gaze at Kinder Surprise eggs as a child.

So this young man, who has never known tenderness, decides to show some love to a little snake that can’t express itself. He cooks for it, plays with it, and tells it, “You don’t have to get stronger. I like you just the way you are.”

As he heals the Snivy, he also heals the child inside himself who never felt accepted.

And he’ll make a little money on the side, too. After all, you can’t keep eating at the Champion’s house for free.
