The protagonist Lin Mo accidentally enters Fengmen Village and is forced to take the place of a ghost postman to deliver letters from the underworld. He abides by three taboo rules and delivers letters to the dead door to door. He encounters old locust trees at the entrance of the village, ghosts in old houses, roadblocks in cemeteries, and auditory hallucinations of deceased relatives. He gradually discovers the secret of the collective disappearance of the deserted village. He is entangled in the curse of the postal route. He wants to leave but cannot get out of Fengmen Mountain.
