To save his younger sister, Jiang Xuan is forced into the Guixu Rift. On the brink of death, he awakens the first tribulation: the remnant soul of the Primordial Sword Emperor. Ji Qingli arrives to investigate strange activity at the Aurora Divide, and the two meet deep within the rift. There, they discover Mo Yuan, a sealed young Void Dragon, along with the first fragment of a clue to the “Hour of Guixu.”
To break the Nine Tribulations seal and stop the Hour of Guixu, Jiang Xuan, Ji Qingli, and their companions embark on a journey across eight great regions. In the Blazing Heaven Realm, they obtain the inheritance of the second tribulation, the Fire God's Body-Refining Art, and meet Tuoba Shan and Yan Long'er. In the Cangming Realm, they awaken the memories of the third tribulation, the Spiritual Ancestor, and meet Bai Youmeng. In the Central Sacred Realm, they are swept up in conflict among the myriad races and meet Luo Chuan and Xue Wanqing. In the Myriad Demon Ancestral Realm, they ally with the demon race and unlock the fourth and fifth tribulations, the Demon Emperor. In the Netherworld Ghost Domain, they face the past-life grudges of Yan Qiye and unlock the sixth and seventh tribulations. At last, they reach the Primordial Divine Land, where the final battle awaits and the truth behind the Nine Tribulations and the forbidden entity is revealed.
Jiang Xuan gathers the power of all nine tribulations, perfects the unity of the three, breaks through to the fifteenth realm, and successfully seals the forbidden entity, stopping the Hour of Guixu. Guided by the only senior who has reached the first tier of the fifteenth realm, Jiang Xuan and Ji Qingli choose to embark on a new journey to the “Creator's World.”
