The Spirit-Offering Streamer: Exorcist of the City

Making paper effigies serves the yang; making offerings to ghosts serves the yin. There’s a rule in this trade: deal only with the underworld, and never meddle in the affairs of the living.

But he’s not only a paper effigy maker. He also serves as a vessel for spirits.

Big cities don’t believe in tears, and they don’t believe in ghosts or gods, either. Not until they meet Chen Qing.

From eerie knocks in office towers late at night to the stench of blood that never fades from a mansion,

Chen Qing walks the corners untouched by neon, carrying bamboo strips and a clay bell.

Paper ashes flutter like white butterflies; blood and sweat flow like red azaleas.

He isn’t a charlatan. Using incense as his guide, he mends the rifts between the worlds of the living and the dead amid a jungle of concrete and steel.
