Two thousand years ago, the last king of the elves stood amid a sea of fire.
Her name was Chu.
She shared magic with the weak and powerless women, so they would no longer be at the mercy of others. She protected humans, guided lost vampires, and spent countless years mending the many rifts in this world.
Then she died.
Her spirit core shattered and her magic ran dry. The very people she had protected tied her to a stake.
As the flames rose, she looked up at the stars in the night sky.
She thought: It’s all right. The elves are still here. They will keep protecting this world.
Two thousand years later, in the rain in Forks.
Yinuo works at a cafe. Every day, a white-haired man sits in the corner.
He doesn’t speak or interact with anyone. He only orders a hot latte. He frowns after drinking it, but comes back the next day all the same.
She thinks he’s an office worker in Forks trying to get over a broken heart.
He doesn’t know why he can’t leave this little town.
Her blood isn’t the most fragrant, and she isn’t the most beautiful, but the sight of her wiping cups behind the counter makes his heart ache.
His heart stopped beating long ago.
But it hurts.
He doesn’t know why.
He doesn’t know he saw that face two thousand years ago.
She saved him.
He forgot.
Yinuo asks him later, “When you first saw me, why were your hands shaking?”
Caius says, “I don’t know.”
“It felt like I’d seen you somewhere before.”
“I can’t remember where.”
A very interesting book!
