Above the Three Realms, Tathagata plays a game of chess. He used the energy of chaos as his bones and the remnant seal of Sun Wukong's soul as his soul to create a macaque - Liu Er. The six ears were born as chess pieces, Sun Wukong's backup, and a tool for Tathagata's schemes. He doesn't know who he is or where he comes from. He just sleeps in the bamboo forest of Jiuyou Daze, waiting for the day when he is awakened. After being awakened, he was sent to the Spiritual Mountain to be tempered, and was asked to become Sun Wukong, the "true" that the Three Realms needed. But Liu Er refused.
