The Ten Thousand Souls Banner: Starting in Tokyo

In the Age of Declining Dharma, the Blue Star's spiritual energy has dried up. Lin Yuan accidentally obtains the ancient demonic cultivation manual, the Heavenly Demon Scripture, but cannot bring himself to harm his fellow countrymen, so he crosses the sea alone to Fusang. He uses the bones and blood of the Japanese to forge a Banner of Ten Thousand Souls, refining his demonic arts with resentment and death energy. He expects this to be a path of slaughter and damnation, but after wiping out all of Japan, he discovers that the Banner of Ten Thousand Souls shines with brilliant golden light, and the Heavenly Dao has bestowed boundless merit upon him. As it turns out, every soul he killed had blood shed by China's forebears on its hands.

To kill one is a crime; to slaughter ten thousand is to be a hero. To slaughter eight million is to be the greatest hero of all.
