All the legendary Pokémon participating in the battle fell into a deep sleep and were scattered throughout the Star Skeleton Forbidden Area.
The entire area was shrouded in some kind of energy field - later called "Star Source Suppression"
All trainers' Pokémon are suppressed by invisibility, and the closer they are to level 100, the harder it is to break through.
On the human side, most trainers are stuck at level 90 their entire lives. Those who can stably break through level 90 basically have the resources of a huge force behind them.
