I'm Just a Temp, but My Slacking Made Me the City's Guardian

Chen Ye is just a temp at the neighborhood office.

On his first day at work, he hides in the records room to slack off and finds a document called the "City Death Schedule".

It says:

Tonight at 18:23, Fuan Road intersection: 17 deaths.

Tonight at 22:10, City No. 2 Hospital: 31 deaths.

Tonight at 23:40, Chen Ye: cause of death, stumbling into a glitch in the city.

To stay alive, Chen Ye is forced to follow the System’s prompts and slack off everywhere, from bus stops and hospitals to elevators, urban villages, and subway entrances.

Everyone else thinks he’s just shirking work.

Only the city’s backend knows:

Every time he wears out a chair, a disaster is rewritten.

Later, the Death Scheduler comes looking for him.

The City Inspectorate wants to arrest him.

The Overtime System wants to erase him.

Chen Ye looks at the schedule and says just one thing:

“I’m only a temp.”

“Did you ask me before putting me on the schedule?”

The monsters start calling roll.

Everyone runs for their lives.

Lu Ye crouches in a corner and quietly turns his work ID around.

The next second, a System notification appears:

[Host detected in low-power slacking mode]

[Anomalous contamination immunity in progress]

[Rule recognition failed]

The monster walks right past him without noticing.

Later, an abandoned hospital, a midnight mall, a school gone out of control, and the city’s Forbidden Zone erupt one after another.

Everyone thinks Lu Ye is a hidden powerhouse.

Only Lu Ye knows the truth.

He really just wants to make it through probation and get his social insurance paid up.
