The Lamenting Geese: Wild Geese Rise, Butterflies Fall

[The Ten Days After the City Fell] [Lin Pianpian]

Synopsis

The thirteenth year of Chongzhen, the western market of Yangzhou.

Lin Pianpian was sold by her own mother for the paltry sum of twenty-five taels of silver. She didn't cry. She had long since stopped believing anyone would save her.

Yang Xiu stepped out of the crowd. “Thirty taels. I'll buy her.”

He was the legitimate son of the Yang family, whose hall bore a plaque proclaiming, “A family passed down through poetry and propriety.”

He bought her not to be a maid or a concubine, but for one reason: poetry teaches people to be tenderhearted, and propriety teaches them to stand tall.

He taught her to read and write, taught her how to be a person, and taught her to live the character for “regret” as “no regrets.”
