The background is like the Anti-Japanese War. The human empire was very prosperous before, but for unknown reasons, it gradually declined. From the top of the food chain before, to being able to despise any alien race at will, the people of the empire have a strong belief in the emperor.
The Emperor was a time-travelling cultivator who failed in cultivating immortals to transcend the tribulation.
