In the 21st year of the Republic of China (1932), with the smoke of the Songhu Battle still lingering, the Central Aviation School was established in Jianqiao, Hangzhou. A stone tablet was erected at the school gate, inscribed on it: "Our bodies, aircraft and bombs shall perish together with the enemy's warship positions."
This is the cradle of China's first generation of pilots and the starting point of their life countdown.
The story focuses on the third batch of students of the aviation school - their average age is 23 years old. Most of them come from well-known families and graduated from top universities. They could have lived well and lived well, but they chose to forge themselves into sharp swords flying towards death. The average time from enrollment to sacrifice is only six months.
The male protagonist Shen Zhibai, a top student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was born in a poor family and joined the army. From being ignorant about flying to becoming an ace pilot, he finds a balance between the sky and love.
The heroine Gu Jingqiu, the first female surgeon in the eight-year program of Union Medical College, fled from Peking to the south due to the war and served in the Jianqiao Aviation School Clinic. She used a scalpel to fight death for her life, but she saw off the same pair of flying boots again and again.
The story takes the period from 1932 to 1937 as the main line, spanning the Songhu Anti-Japanese War, the Great Wall Anti-Japanese War, the Xi'an Incident, and the August 14 Jianqiao Air Battle - the Chinese Air Force's first large-scale air battle against Japan. Shen Zhibai and his colleagues will write the original dignity of the Chinese Air Force in the sky with their flesh and blood.
