On the Ancient Road from Famine, My System Refreshes Without End

Great Qian, Year Seven of Yongchang.

Yellow dust filled the sky, and dry bones littered the land.

Shen Qingning was jolted awake by a basin of cold water.

“Dead is dead. At least she won’t slow everyone down on the road.”

Her legal mother’s cold voice came from above. Right after that came the creak of the carriage starting up.

She struggled to open her eyes and found herself dumped in a rocky ravine. There wasn’t a blade of green anywhere, only a few crows watching her from a dead tree.

Waves of hunger burned in her belly as the original owner’s memories flooded in. She had transmigrated into the body of an illegitimate daughter of a marquis’s household, fleeing famine, and had been “disposed of” because she was useless.

“Heh, you’re disposing of me?” Shen Qingning pushed herself up over the loose stones, the corner of her mouth curling into a cold smile. “This game has only just begun.”

Just then, a mechanical voice exploded in her mind:

[Ding! Host’s vital signs have fallen below the critical threshold. Infinite Refresh System activated!]

[Current time: 23:59. Time until first refresh: 1 minute.]

[Beginner’s gift pack delivered: 10 beef noodle bowls, 10 bottles of Nongfu Spring, 5 self-heating hot pots.]

Shen Qingning froze for a second, then burst into wild laughter.

Her laughter startled the vultures into flight and rang across the desolate plain for miles.

“Heavens, you want to starve me to death? Sorry, but I’m going to punch a hole right through the sky!”
