[Japanese Light Novel Style] [Slice of Life] [Slow-Paced]
What you think of as everyday life is merely a carefully calculated safe zone.
Kamiya Yu is an ordinary high school student, the kind you see everywhere: above-average grades, reasonably popular, and just the right amount of distance from everyone. Never the best, never the worst, never anyone's hope, never anyone's worry. He thought the carefully maintained "ordinary" life would last until graduation.
Until one afternoon, when he met Tsukishiro Rei, a third-year student, on the rooftop.
The top student in their year, she never took part in any school socializing and was so inconspicuous she was like a rare insect. She always carried strange books: The Cloud Classification Guide, 100 Most Boring Facts in the World, and a pack of chocolate pies.
"You're looking for a place where no one watches you and no one expects anything of you," she said calmly, revealing the secret he'd hidden for two whole years.
From then on, the rooftop every Wednesday afternoon became a no-jurisdiction zone belonging only to the two of them. One slept, the other read. Sometimes they shared snacks; sometimes they talked about the shapes of clouds.
But when an unexpected downpour trapped them both on the rooftop, the carefully concealed truths began peeling away layer by layer, like towering clouds in the rain.
"From now on, you're not alone. I need to make that official."
This is a story about two people who are bad at being honest with the world, and how they learn to drop their masks in front of each other.
