Synopsis

Ensemble cast + mystery + adventure + the supernatural + an in-depth system for analyzing taboo objects (see the glossary below) + no power-level grind. (The prologue is quite long. If you don't enjoy it, feel free to skip to Chapter One.)

The Scales of Judgment vanished into thin air from the Empire's most impregnable underground palace. The sealed room was untouched, and the only clue was a line of alchemical script etched deep into a bronze mirror: “I'm back, though I never left.”

Investigator Arthur Hawthorne can “see” the past lingering at crime scenes. But when his fingertips touch the Dusk Mirror, a demon's voice whispers in his ear: “You and I are alike.”

At the same time, gang leaders from the Razor Gang in London's East End begin dying under bizarre circumstances. Every victim was a villain beyond the reach of the law, and every killer was an ordinary person whose life they had ruined.

Arthur must stop an explosion that threatens to swallow the entire city and hunt down a mastermind who never leaves a trace.

Glossary

The in-depth analysis of taboo objects is the systematic process of deconstructing, extrapolating the layers of, and tracing the essence of supernatural artifacts fueled by “cost,” at the limits of cognition and the laws of existence. Its subjects are not ordinary objects, but taboo entities that take conceptual form as their ultimate state, exchanged for the holder's humanity, morality, perception, reason, and other flaws.

Novels With Vast Worlds, Undercurrents Between Factions, and Racial Rivalries

Stories with expansive worldbuilding, multiple plotlines, plenty of foreshadowing, and conflicts between many factions, like "The Legend of the Evil Heroes", "Beast Blood Boiling", and "City in the Apocalypse". Any genre is fine.
