The nanoplague "alteration" is eroding every world on the edge of the galaxy - metal and flesh are slowly rusting, and time faults are cracking everywhere, confusing the past, present and future into a mess. Every ten years, the source of the plague, the "Rust Core," appears. Seven time-damaged pilgrims are forced to travel together to the Rust Core to find a way to end the plague.
Among them, the memory craftsman, an archivist with a "perfect memory", obtained a very costly golden finger - memory engraving: he can materialize any memory into a physical chip, play it back, transfer it, or even implant it into the brains of others. But every time he imprints, he will randomly lose a piece of his past.
As his memory gradually becomes blank, the stories of the seven people begin to intertwine, contradict, and devour each other. A truth about the forgetting mechanism of the universe is about to emerge - the rust core is not a source, but a trash can. All the memories erased from history are there screaming to come back.
