Reborn in 1985: Qi Tongwei, I Won't Kneel

“No one can judge me! Damn the heavens!”

At 2:07 a.m. on April 14, 2017, atop Lonely Eagle Ridge, the instant Qi Tongwei pulled the trigger, he had no illusions left about his life. He had tried to outwit fate and lost.

But the next second, he heard an alarm clock.

At 6:20 a.m. on August 31, 1985, in Room 304 of the old third dormitory building at Handong University, twenty-year-old Qi Tongwei sat up in his lower bunk. Cicadas still sang outside the window. On his left wrist, the crescent-shaped scar a drug dealer had left him in his previous life was slowly appearing on his young skin.

This time, he had a second chance at life.

He remembered Gao Yuliang pouring tea for him in his study, the phone call from Liang Lu’s father that had ruined half his life, the casual way Zhao Lichun called him “Little Qi,” and, most of all, that final bullet atop Lonely Eagle Ridge. This time, everyone who had ever trampled on him would get down on their knees, one by one.

Armed with thirty-two years of experience in the political arena from his previous life, and arriving in 1985 ahead of schedule, he would rise from a penniless country boy to navigate Shenzhen’s electronic watches, Hainan’s real estate boom, the gunfire on Lonely Eagle Ridge, Lincheng’s coal mines, and Jingzhou’s political storms. This time, he would be no one’s pawn. He would be the one moving the pieces.

And that phrase, “outwit fate by half a move”...

This time, he would turn it from an epitaph into a true banner.

This novel will never whitewash the original work’s villain, never hand Qi Tongwei a golden finger, and never let him coast effortlessly to victory. He still has to walk the dirtiest road, but this time, he’ll make it all the way through on his own.
