My head is about to explode.
This is the most accurate feeling I can express. It is not an exaggeration or a metaphor. It was literal—I felt like my head was cracking open from the inside, like someone had inserted a heated grenade into my skull.
The time was two forty-seven in the morning, and the location was the second floor of the school's genetic engineering laboratory. In front of me was the data from the eighteenth failed electrotransfection experiment, and the dense curves on the screen looked like a dead snake. After staying up for thirty-six hours, I was about to drink my third cup of instant coffee when the pain came without any warning.
The mug in his hand fell to the ground, and broken porcelain and coffee spilled all over the floor. I held the experimental table with both hands and dug my nails into the gaps in the stainless steel table. Double images began to appear in front of my eyes.
Not an illusion.
Something was forming on my retina. Like a translucent light film, as thin as a soap bubble, but clearly suspended in the center of my field of vision. A line of words began to appear on the light film——
"Detected high-energy physical phenomena in the surroundings: the ultra-low temperature environment of minus 80°C in the laboratory, is it replicated?"
I was stunned.
