The Retirement Life of a Top-Tier Landlord

Everyday antics + hilarious banter + reborn

Lin Ye, the supreme demon cultivator, has retired. His dream is to lounge on sunny beaches in a bikini, but after buying a “haunted house to end all haunted houses” on the cheap, he’s forced to take a new job as the principal of a monster kindergarten.

The “problem children” under his care are all more outrageous than the last: a cat demon determined to become a detective, whose first case is a classic case of the thief crying “Stop thief!”; a socially anxious spirit-writing medium who becomes a viral relationship blogger by writing bloody letters, leaving macho men sobbing on his doorstep; and, best of all, a kappa on the roof who nearly drowns in his own little patch of water and has to rely on a swim ring to stay afloat.

When the daughter of the Orthodox Alliance’s leader storms in with an ultraviolet lamp and hairball-removal cream to conduct “scientific exorcisms,” the whole apartment’s vibe goes completely off the rails. Lin Ye thought retirement would be a battlefield, but it turns out he’s become a babysitter. Yet when the demon sword from his past life comes knocking, this bunch of cowardly troublemakers forms the “Dumb Student Alliance” and uses traps to drive the sword to the brink of a mental breakdown.

Only then does Lin Ye realize that the new world he wants to protect is no longer a martial world of flashing blades, but this noisy, troublesome home that he just can’t stop worrying about. If you’re looking for a heartwarming story about an overpowered expert stumbling through hilarious everyday life in the city and slowly being healed by a bunch of monsters, this book is not to be missed.
