Lu Shi'an is a restorer of cultural relics in the Forbidden City. He is responsible for restoring clocks. Those Western clocks from hundreds of years ago were incredibly delicate and frighteningly fragile. He sat there all day, using tweezers to pick up parts that were thinner than a hair, breathing lightly. Master said: "Repairing a clock is to cultivate the mind." The restoration of a cultural relic can take as short as a few weeks or as long as several years. When Lu Shi'an repaired a gold-plated copper writer's clock from the Qianlong period, the clock started to move again, and the little man wrote "Longevity without Borders" one stroke at a time. Everyone in the repair room had red eyes. He said: "What I repair has never been clocks, but time. It is my job to make time not forgotten."
