My name is Lin Yuan. I'm the night-shift mortuary transport worker at the funeral home in the south of the city. Put simply, I collect corpses.
The work is filthy and unlucky, and the pay is pitiful. But I had no choice. I graduated with a degree in funeral services, and with no money or connections, this was the only way I could make a living.
Then, in the early hours of one morning, I got a call from the duty room.
A major traffic accident on the eastern expressway. One dead, two injured. The deceased was a young woman in a red dress.
I arrived at the scene and lifted the cold body onto a stretcher. My flashlight swept over her face: deathly pale, peaceful, eyes closed.
Everything seemed normal.
Except she'd died twice.
The first time was three years ago, when she drowned herself at the bridge in the south of the city. I was the one who moved that body, too.
The same name, the same face, the same red dress.
But she'd already died three years ago.
So what exactly had I brought back from the accident scene tonight?
The body vanished from the funeral home's morgue, and the refrigerated drawer opened by itself. On the security footage, the woman in red stood up, smiled at the camera, and said:
“I found you.”
My grandfather said I had an “all-yin birth chart,” and was born able to see what other people couldn't. He left me a set of family-inherited “Soul-Calming Hand Seals.” I'd practiced them for over a decade since childhood, and could just about manage one move.
But my grandfather said the woman in red wasn't an ordinary spirit.
She was a vengeful ghost.
Eighty years ago, someone arranged a ghost marriage for her and locked her soul inside a silver bracelet. She couldn't die, nor could she be reborn. Every few decades, she'd “appear” again, jumping into a river, dying in a car crash, hanging herself... each time dying the same way.
And she'd come back more than once...
