At the end of the Dayin Dynasty, the painter Zhong Kui was painting a portrait of Zhong Kui when his portrait backfired and his soul was swallowed. After his resurrection, he gained the power of yin and yang eyes and the ability to restrain souls and take lives, and became the acting judge of the world appointed by the underworld. He gradually came to know that Zhong Kui in the painting was actually transformed by his twin brother who died unjustly, and that the mastermind who framed his brother and caused his tragic death in the "failed exorcism" case was none other than Pei Yan, the current prime minister who is now in power and is in charge of the Qintian Prison and the Underworld Directory. The protagonist travels between Yin and Yang, using paintings to enter Taoism, and using seals to convict people. In the process of investigating old cases, arresting evil ghosts, and rewriting the book of life and death, he gradually uncovers the shocking shady story of the collusion between the court and the underworld, and embarks on the road of being a judge with his mortal body to defy heaven and change his fate, rectify his brother's name, and seek justice for all souls.
