Song Wei, a low-ranking female clerk, hides a “curse”: when she touches an object left behind by the dead, she can read their memories, but she randomly forgets her own. The evidence in the case of the “Headless Bride” is flawless, yet she “sees” something impossible. To save her benefactor, she is forced to work with Pei Zhao, the Ministry of Justice official so cold he hardly seems alive. One relies on “intuition,” the other on “logic,” and together they expose the real culprit behind the paradox: a “painted-skin” killer who can forge memories. Once the case is closed, Song Wei discovers that her memories of her family from three years ago have been wiped away entirely. A charred peony at the scene leads her into an even deeper mystery.
I am also an old bookworm. This book is well written. The story behind the foreshadowing is exciting and fascinating. I couldn't put it down.
Not many people write serious books these days. It's good to read.
