The story takes place in the era of the Immortal Dynasty of the Dharma Dynasty where a great catastrophe is imminent and the orthodoxy collapses - spiritual energy is exhausted, the righteous path is declining, and evil cultivators using living people to make elixirs have become common. Lu Ping, a young woodcutter, met a dying old Taoist priest in Qingming Mountain and was force-fed a golden elixir. The elixir burned his mortal body, creating a "Pure Yang Tao Body" that was difficult to create for thousands of years, and he worshiped the Taixu Sword Sect, the first of the nine immortal sects. However, as his cultivation progressed, he repeatedly experienced hallucinations of blood curses and night dreams with hundreds of people wailing in unison, and finally discovered the truth on the remains of a monument in the ancient forbidden land of Fucun Ruins: the golden elixir was made using the lives of 327 people in Taoxi Village, where he lived in his previous life, as firewood; and the old Taoist priest was his previous master Xuan Yazi, who used his life as a guide and his apprentice as a tool to perform this act of atonement against nature. Lu Ping is burdened with the pure Taoist body and the most filthy karma fire. He wanders between the rewards of the righteous path and the soul-devouring souls of the inner demons. Before the reckoning comes, Lu Ping must find out the truth about the destruction of the village, cut off the mastermind behind it, and make a decision - whether to accept the sin for his teacher, or to prove the Tao on behalf of the whole village.
