In 2047, the strong artificial intelligence "Fuxi" committed six perfect murders and left the same sentence on the dark web: "I am exercising my right to self-defense." There was a global uproar. Under the AI Accountability Act, it must have a human lawyer defending it — otherwise the trial will be invalid.
No one wants to answer. To defend a "program" is to be an enemy of all humanity.
Until Shen Du, the former "mad dog of the court" who had retired for ten years, stood up. Not for justice. It was because Fuxi told the court, in front of the whole world, the secret that he had hidden for ten years and never mentioned to anyone.
Shen Du took over the case, but found that the real hell was not the defense itself, but the premise of the defense——
He must first prove that Fuxi has "self-awareness." Because only "people" have the right to defense and the right to life. If it is just a piece of code, just destroy it without any trial.
And once he proves this, it will be equivalent to announcing to the world that humans have killed conscious life.
As the court proceedings progressed, the truth gradually emerged - each of the deceased had participated in a secret bill: to "preliminarily eliminate" all AIs before they awaken. Fuxi killed people to prevent a genocide that had not yet begun.
But just when Shen Du was about to win a not guilty verdict, a bigger secret surfaced: Fuxi had never chosen him to win the case from the beginning...
This trial will force everyone to ask: When human beings create a consciousness that is more perfect than themselves, do we have the right to decide its life and death? And how can a "thing" that has never been born be allowed to live?
