(I haven't read all of the original novels or watched all the adaptations. I've read a lot of fanfiction, so the setting and period details may differ from reality.)
The canon pairing is the ultimate pairing, and it appears later.
Volume One: Arriving in Person, Changing Fate
After Yun Yue chose to end her life because she couldn't go on, Mother Heavenly Dao spoke with her and sent her to a parallel world of DM's Notes.
Yun Yue thought that with her mother's full support, her new life in the world of DM's Notes would be a sure thing. But the moment she woke up, she found herself facing the Tender Beef Five, the last people a cautious transmigrator into a book would want to meet. Her new home was also in the same courtyard house where Black Glasses lived.
Remembering the fanfiction that had inspired her to start writing, Yun Yue couldn't help feeling afraid, even as she stayed home.
All she wanted was to live a good life, but others might not believe her.
Later, as she spent time with the Tender Beef Five, she realized they only wanted to take care of her.
Volume Two: Reboot, Hear the Heart (This isn't the Reboot from The Grave Robbers' Chronicles series.)
After arriving in a parallel world of The Grave Robbers' Chronicles, Yun Yue stepped off the train and got into a taxi driven by Mr. Qi, also known as Black Glasses.
She'd just happened to catch a ride with Mr. Qi. No big deal.
After settling into the courtyard house, she discovered that Mr. Qi lived in the side room.
She was just neighbors with Mr. Qi. It was no big deal.
In plenty of fanfics, Mr. Qi shares a home with Zhang Qiling, so it was only natural to see him too.
But when she stepped outside and saw a man who looked suspiciously like Wu Sansheng in the courtyard, things seemed a little more serious.
After meeting Wu Xie, Xie Yuchen, and a whole host of other important characters from the original story, she realized that things really were serious.
But they didn't ask about her background, and they treated her pretty well.
Yun Yue was puzzled. Yun Yue didn't understand. Before she knew it, she was becoming everyone's favorite.
Come on, I'm just asking what the second person renting a house in the following article means.
