At the foot of a snow-covered mountain five thousand meters above sea level, an abandoned Han Chinese baby girl is found by an old woman and named Gesang Meiduo. She grows up drinking yak milk, her cheeks flushed by the highland sun, yet her eyes are as clear as those of a Jiangnan girl. In the year she turns eighteen, a young geologic survey team leader enters her world, bringing news from beyond the mountains and an unexpected avalanche. While the survey team believes she has perished, Gesang Meiduo leads a herd of yaks through a thousand-year-old crevasse, her song echoing across the glacier. It turns out she is not only the highland's Gesang flower, but also a descendant of the mountain guardians and the only one who can decipher the codes in ancient rock paintings.
