"Su Wan, this is not an occasion you should come to."
Zhou Ruolan's voice was neither loud nor quiet, just enough for everyone around her to hear. Wearing a champagne-colored dress, she stood in front of the gilded door at the entrance to the auction. She raised her chin slightly and looked at me with the same look as a stray cat.
I looked down at what I was wearing. A white T-shirt, washed-white jeans, and canvas shoes with a patch of dust on the edges. Indeed, it doesn't quite match the dome crystal chandelier of the five-star hotel in front of me.
But I held an invitation letter in my hand. The school's outstanding student representatives are eligible to participate in this charity auction dinner. The head teacher said this was an opportunity to see the world and it would be helpful for me to write my college entrance examination essay.
"Did you hear that?" Zhou Ruolan took a step forward. Behind her were two girls who were also wearing formal dresses. They looked like her followers. "The minimum price of each item here is five digits. You can't even afford the tickets, right?"
I looked up at her.
Zhou Ruolan, second in grade. I'm first.
This ranking has not changed since I entered school. She has been unhappy with me for a long time and would step on me whenever she got the chance. I usually don't bother to talk to her at school, because I don't have enough time to study questions, but today she blocked the door with two security guards standing behind her, obviously trying to embarrass me in public.
"I have an invitation," I said.
"So what?" Zhou Ruolan smiled, her smile was very fake, "What can you afford? Go in and sit there? Or -" she lowered her voice, "You want to find a rich man to help you pay for your tuition? That's right, your parents are gone and no one will support you in school. It's quite pitiful."
There were thorns in her voice, and each thorn pierced my painful spot.
