The River God's Bride

Every year on the third day of the seventh lunar month, this most mysterious tributary of the Qian River is struck by an inexplicable peach blossom flood.

The weather bureau says it is caused by snowmelt from the mountains upstream coinciding with the rainy season.

But the locals know that's not true. The forecast says the skies will be clear every year on these days, yet the river rises all the same, and for no apparent reason, as if something were turning over at the bottom of the river.

Even more unnerving is the color of the water.
